Info Post: The London Underground

This is a bit more specific than these posts usually are, and the knowledge might not be as general as most of that I impart.

But if I were fighting a criminal on the tracks of the London Underground, it might at least cross my mind to wonder or worry about the LIVE RAIL.

Trains might come through Central London stations every two or three minutes (sometimes even more often if two or more lines run on the same tracks like the Hammersmith & City/Circle/Metropolitan/District Lines often do), but I don't think the live rail will take even that long to electrocute you.

(I know, for example, that when I lived at one of the points where the Underground runs above ground, a man was killed by the live rail ("death by misadventure") when he took the illegal short cut across the tracks to his home. And on another occasion Transport for London got into trouble when they evacuated a train through the tunnels to the next station, away from the IRA bomb threat, but without turning off the power to the live rail.)

You might not know which rail it is (I certainly don't) but I would expect a Londoner to be vaguely aware that one of them is live...
