February had a couple of high points - like posting a comment_fic without angst or beta! But I didn't finish either of my episode tags, which was kinda the goal.

YTD wordcount: 4,500 words reported.

I think there are more, but most of the month, following the benefits meeting, was "Write letter to DWP" and stressing about it. Whenever I have to think about being on ESA and why I'm on ESA - especially actually putting down in black and white all the reasons why I can't do stuff is the most depressing thing in the world. So Depression, Anxiety and hypersomnia. There are physiological reasons for my hypersomnia to do with pain and sleep and opiates and beta-waves, but I can't help but think there are also psychological reasons - like when I get too stressed or depressed my brain just shuts my body down.

Doing anything when you either sleep 18 hours straight (or more) or doze off every hour or two (I sat down to wait for the kettle to boil and woke up two hours later - I've burnt food badly and am always worried about the day when the burnt food actually catches fire or something) just... I swear this "side effect" is worse than the actual disability.

Anyway, with the ever-present goal of actually catching up with getyourwordsout, I have to get 18,500 words YTD by end of March.

14,000 words in 26 days.

Which is nice because as a target it also amounts (I'm a putter-in, not a cutter-out) to a first draft for the ci5_boxoftricks Big Bang.

So that's my March target.

I have also signed up as an actual cheerleader for the BB. I've worked with a number of writers in a number of fandoms now as a sounding board, discussing ideas and plots and characters.

Also I lived and worked and went to school either in London or just outside it for thirty years - third generation of Londoner. My Mum was born in 1947 so is pretty much the same age as Our Lads, if London, not Derby or Birmingham(?) or Liverpool. My Dad was in the Army in the fifties and made Orderly Room Sergeant. (Actually, with the exceptions of my generation, all my male family members did some time in the Army, as regulars, conscripts or National Service. One grandfather was in WWII from the outbreak and into 1946 while the Allies occupied Germany and the other was in France in WWI. Yes, I, not II. Three of my Dad's *brothers* were in WWII.) My Dad's office was blown up by the IRA (the Gherkin now stands where the Baltic Exchange once was). I've been in the same place as IRA bombs on several occasions, including a suspect package at my CofE school; on the tube in charge of three younger children from my drama group; and one time when they could not evacuate the office building without taking us past the bomb, so we were all told to get under our desks while bomb squad dealt with it. (Growing up, for me personally, the IRA seemed a more immediate danger than possible Nuclear Winter.) And I'm a psych grad who worked on psychometric testing (as well as learning disorders) so may be able to help with Kate Ross.

So please let me know if I can be of assistance! :)

*hugs* I'm sorry about the stress and all the extra troubles it brings - I too would think that the psychological stress has a physiological effect. I do hope March brings you a better state of affairs.

Great to have a word target - as I said, I'm so glad you chose to go with the Pros BB *g* Following on from our chats, I have the first volume of 'Les Miserables' (it was cheapest to get in two volumes, and I reckoned less imposing that way too!) and actually starting reading that gave me an idea for my Pros BB story, so thank you for that - you're already spreading inspiration! *g*

I am intrigued! How far have you got? Also what in Les Mis made you think of Bodie and Doyle?

As for my own BB, as I said over at check-in, I think I may have to work on all three fic ideas I have and see which is finished by June. I just cannot choose *one* to focus on. (If I did, it would be the AU, but I'm loath to make an Au my first offering in this fandom.)

Good luck! *g*

I've only got an outline so far - a sketch of the situation, an idea of what the main arc is, an idea of how the story moves from start to finish. That's always how I begin, then I start writing - I always have to start at the start, for some reason. Sometimes after I've written a bit I go back and realise more scenes are needed before the 'start' I've got but I always begin with what I think is the beginning. I think that's how I get ideas too - an idea of a 'beginning' situation, and the story of Bishop Myriel/Monseigneur Bienvenu sparked up an idea for a situation for Ray that suggested a plot *g*

Working on one story can help inspire another - three at once is a lot to take on, but of course if you work on all 3 and use one for the Big Bang, it's not like you lose the others to the ether - they can be next year or bonuses in the meantime! Good luck to you too! *g*

Yeah, sleep is associated with depression - a friend has just been diagnosed with depression partly on the basis of the incredible amount of time he's sleeping at the moment - so it could well be psychological as well as physical. And yes, it's a horrible side-effect.

I was going to be all awed at the idea of that many words in such a sort time, and ask whether it was not putting extra pressure on you. But I know that such things can be done, and if it helps...

Also, yay on the comment fics! That's a thing that absolutely is beyond me, so go you.

It's not that many words for first draft. Editing is the tough bit. I average 350 words to an A4 page, so if I can get just waffle for two pages a day...

If I can stay awake long enough to do so. Bah.
