I want to SQUEE! :D

So, who watched The Night Manager last night? I know what I'll be doing for the next 5 Sunday evenings.

Olivia Colman and Russel Tovey were brilliant... but of course, the BIG NAMES of the all-star cast are Tom Hiddlestone as Jonathan Pine (the eponymous hero) and Hugh Laurie as Richard "Dickie" Roper. Not much Roper, yet - but oh, Jonathan Pine. Hello - competency, decency and foreign language skills! Although Hiddles has the worst handwriting I have ever seen... (I'm guessing from the international locations and All-Stars that if this is not already airing in the States, it soon will be?)

(Is it wrong that Richard Roper gave me pre-Iron Man Tony Stark feels? I mean, his company is Iron Last Ltd, we first saw him talking about how he's an entrepreneur and philanthropist and then we find him arms dealing?! Not really a spoiler, that, as it was the set-up and even in the newspaper TV Guide recommendation...)

Someone tell me we can talk about this!!

My biggest fear is that, with a trip to St Thomas's coming up on Friday (a 4pm appointment, about 4 hours' travel away, so, with leaving home in time to have lunch THERE pre-appointment, it looks like being an 11am to 9pm day, IF he's running on time with his clinic hours, so that'll be fun), I might be comatose next Sunday! (And yes - also, worthy of squee, I am FINALLY seeing my consultant again after last year's tests etc, so please God, he's actually got a treatment programme for me. GIVE ME MY BLOODY STEROIDS! I want to be able to stand long enough to wash my hair on a regular basis! And cook dinner and not be too knackered to eat it. And do the washing up every day. *sigh* Oh, the dreams and ambitions I have! Also, someone in the NHS can't read a calendar. 2nd November to 26th February is a very strange six-to-eight weeks.)

I won't be watching The Night Manager yet because I am currently halfway through watching House M.D. for the first time and don't want to "get my Hugh Lauries confused," but thanks for the rec -- I'll watch TNM eventually.

And wishing you the best with that consult and treatment!

Mmmm - I enjoyed The Night Manager, mostly because Tom Hiddlestone is so pretty and watchable. It's a great cast too, and the whole thing is classy - was it me or was it a bit on the slow side? I watch almost zero telly these days, and I'm never sure if it isn't just me when the pace of something seems off.

OK. I watched The Night Manager. And my main reaction was :

WHY IS IT NOT NEXT WEEK YET???

That was brilliant. SO Le Carre. So complicated and decent and heartbreaking already. And an inspired idea to update the setting to the Arab Spring. And Olivia Colman as a downtrodden but honorable spy with no heating! It's not often that I watch the first episode of something and am pretty sure I will be buying the DVDs.

Really hope that your consultant appointment works out well and they manage to sort something constructive on the medication front (and that you get to watch The Night Manager promptly: you can at least record it, right?)

Olivia Colman in retrospect is possibly my favourite thing - not only is she a woman, she's also the only Brit we've seen who isn't Home Counties/RP/upper-middle class. Just how many glass ceilings did she have to break through to get where she is?!

(And OF COURSE she gets treated like shit by TPTB! Apparently Le Carre said the problem with James Bond was the lack of politics - never having to to fight for permission from his own side to Do The Right Thing - whereas this really shows that, the way the alphaneumeric brigade fight for power as much between themselves as internationally etc)

Unfortunately, I don't have a DVR and if I'm staying with Mum and Dad in the aftermath - Mum as my carer will have to take me to Westminster - apparently Dad hated it and won't be watching again. :(

But thanks for the good wishes - I'm touching wood, crossing things and praying!
