A small point about opening hours

In England, even in Central London and Docklands, the chances are that your characters are not going to find it easy to find a coffee shop that's open after 7pm.

No, I'm actually serious.

If you want a coffee at that time of evening? Pubs (most serve coffee, though you may get an odd look), Burger King (etc), maybe Oxford Street/Bond Street/Regent's Street/Piccadilly on a Thursday (late night opening) and the station concourses of the Major London Stations, all-night petrol stations and motorway service stations... but most Starbucks, Pret a Mangers etc etc will close at 7pm, or even 6pm. Some close as early as 5pm or 5.30pm. Some *might* just stay open until 8pm.

But you really won't be sitting in a coffee shop until 10pm or even midnight. (If you are, I want to know where this coffee shop is. :D Spent so much time in London looking for a decent place to have a coffee after work.)

And in the sticks, the coffee shops often close before the shops do, even as early as 4pm.

I'm not in a Bad Place atm, so didn't think you were getting at me. Sorry. I hate the idea that you feel you need to pussyfoot around my psyche, but I know it's warranted from our past interactions. Sorry.

Maybe things have changed, I last lived in London in 2008, but I know I could wander for hours looking for an open coffee shop after 7pm when I did. No wonder we're a nation of boozers. The attitude very much seemed to be - if the pubs are open, why do you want a coffee shop?

As someone who lived in "the sticks" in England (Great Yarmouth) almost a decade ago I can vouch for places closing by 5pm. Unless things have changed since 2002 I would challenge anybody to find somewhere that's not a chain (McDonald's, ASDA, etc) open on Sunday, too. ;-)

God, I miss England!
