Couple of questions

Having just re-listened to "Ottery St Mary"...

Fornham St Martin (which is a place near me!)

"There's a hole in my bucket" (the song) Do people who aren't English know this song?

ETA: Douglas and Martin are now singing "All for the Best" from Godspell in my head. I need to find a reason for this. :D

It's certainly well known in Australia - I learned it as a kid!

It strikes me as a very Arthurian song. It goes on forever (tho' not quite to the extent of "One Man Went to Mow"), it was a standard for junior school and Brownies coach trips, and it's about a twit who has to ask advice for everything and a long-suffering "Liza".

What do you think?

it's a *very* Arthur song. I'm sure he identifies closely with Dear Henry, dear Henry. I'm sure Carolyn thinks tht if she'd been Liza, she'd have brained Dear Henry with the bucket long before the fourth inane question.

Can you imagine going on holiday with child!Arthur? Singing "We're all going on a Summer Holiday" without knowing the tune. Or most of the lyrics?

I suppose we're all lucky that Carolyn didn't deliberately drive her car into a tree in those early years.

Poor Carolyn. Poor Arthur. :)

What do you think about the ETA duet idea? Since both my school and my university did productions of Godspell, I have this idea of a Younger!Martin playing Jesus. Or maybe Judas/John. Don't really know yet. But having an incriminating videotape floating around somewhere. (There are videos in existence of me in G&S productions after all.)

I am forever in favour of any or all music fics! :)

Hee. I love music and I sing all the time (perk of living alone) so the Random Songs of Cabin Pressure are my idea of perfect.

BTW DId you see the (slightly panicked) idea dump in my last post?
Aug. 22nd, 2012 05:35 am (UTC)
I went back and found that post... I don't think I got past the bit with your mother's reaction to your letter, and I coudln't read past the grinding of my teeth.

I kind of like the idea of Martin and John raising a de-aged Sherlock who has been rescued from Moriarty's clutches. An OT3 with John/Sherlock/Martin (either non sexual or full of shenanigans, whatever takes your fancy, I just think the dynamic would be fun) also sounds good. I like a lot of the 'Martin is Sherlock's little brother/half brother/cousin' fics I see out there.

*HUGS* I can understand why he was so pissed off. I was rubbish. It was just the way he worded everything. Anyway - trying to get past that.

And YAY for you likeing my ideas!!!

It's never the wrong thing to approach a person with compassion and kindness; he failed at that pretty spectacularly. :/ But yes. Moving on. Looking forward to your new ideas turning into stories! :)

I know the song. :)

Do you also know "Cabin Pressure"?
Aug. 21st, 2012 03:02 pm (UTC)
Is that a song? If so, no.

If you're referring to the show, yes, and we've had that conversation before. :)

Chiming in a bit late - I have an auditory memory of some Muppets singing the "Hole in my bucket" song, probably Bert and Ernie. At any rate, I'm definitely familiar with it, whether or not Sesame Street was spreading it around the US when I was a child.
