5 Questions Meme (again)

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions.
3. You should then update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You should include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post [only if you want to].
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed you should ask them 5 questions [only if you want to].

Or you can just ask me 5 questions [only if you want to]

Questions asked by ivy_chan</lj>  (& Answers)

1.) You're going to revamp a Disney princess- plot, personality, etc, to fit in with a more modern approach to female characters, and yet still fit in within the story. Which would you choose and how?

Hmm. Interesting question. The interesting thing about most of the "Princess" stories (and the fairy tales they are based on) is that the basic conflict is between the Two Female Aspects (step-mother/older-woman/witch and innocent-young-virgin) which then gets resolved by a (almost character-less and name-less Prince Charming) MAN. (Of course, in the Grimm versions, Cinderella ("Ashenputtel"), for example, shows MUCH more incentive than her Disney counter-part since she initiates the magic of the tree rather than having Fairy Godmother jump in.)

So hard to choose... (And Angela Carter has already done this with some of them... )

Cinderella, I think. It was my favourite Disney video as a kid, and my favourite fairy story. And one could have a lot of fun with her attitude to the Ugly Sisters and stepmother. [What about YOU?]

2.) If you were a color, what color would you be?

Peridot. (And yes, there's a wink there to the SG-1 fans on my list, but it's also a true answer.) I'd love to be red or purple, but I know I'm more insipid than that. A pale, clear yellow-green... that's more me.

3.) You have to kill off one member of the main TMNT cast. Who would it be and why?

I rather liked the Mirage 4 treatment of Splinter's death, actually. And he would be logically the first to die - and the IMPACT on the guys both personally in losing their father and dynamically in losing the head of the Clan should be a strong story (if the guys were 20-ish rather than 30-ish especially). Although in my head the Clan could never go 4 separate ways... as they did in Mirage.

If you meant the Core Four - Michelangelo. I like him, don't get me wrong, but I think examining the personal consequences of losing him - as contrasted with the CLAN consequences - would be an interesting study. More interesting than removing the Leader, the Tech or the Berserker, anyway.

4.) Is there a character or plot you've always wanted to use but can't quite seem to get the hang of?

Everything I've ever tried to write? heh.

Character - in TMNT, Michelangelo. I just don't have a part of me that I can use to get into his skin. I can only write Mikey if he were depressed. Plot-wise therefore my idea for a one-shot called "The Zeppo" (inspired by the Buffy ep of the same name) in which Mikey questions his role in the Clan and finds the answer... will always just be an idea.

I have a problem with "plot" in general, as my ideas and writing are far more character-centric than plot-centric. I'm more interested in the person than what they do and what happens to them - the PSYCHOLOGY (there's a reason that was my major) ... which (in fic-writing) tends to mean I realise I've written 50 pages in which nothing happens except for someone THINKING about stuff.

5.) What's your favorite of the four elements and why?

FIRE. Without a shadow of a question or a doubt. Fire speaks to me somehow - I always meditate with candles and find a real fire (or even a coal/wood-effect gas fire) mesmerising. I always have. I even learned a poem about staring into the fire and seeing pictures - by heart - when I was only 3 or 4 because it described what I felt so well. (I can still recite that poem, but won't.)

Funnily enough, I AM a fire-sign, in both Eastern AND Western astrology. Coincidence?
Thanks for asking!
ETA - I have NO idea what's with the underlining, but LJ won't let me undo it. Gah. :(

I've given you questions so often, I'm not sure what to ask.

1. Do you believe that suicide is (or should be) a sin or a crime? Give reasons.
2. Do you believe in an Afterlife of any kind?
3. Do you believe in any form of reincarnation?
4. Do you believe that there should be pre-requirements (personal, legal or social) on people becoming parents? After all, we require people to hold a licence to own a dog!
5. Do you believe in euthenasia/ assisted suicide?
